Darkwave vs Synth Punk = this Sunday at PART TIME PUNKS...

Sweden's HOLOGRAMS, oft-described to emit a "seemingly impossible energy," bring their darkwave sounds to the States, making their live LA debut at PTP. Channeling equal parts Killing Joke, The Sods and Warsaw-era Joy Division...Holograms' debut LP on Captured Tracks echoes with the same violent abandonment as their labelmates, The Soft Moon, and fellow Scandanavians, Iceage.

LYONNAIS released one of PTP's favorite records of last year, an epic mini-LP called "Want For Wish For Nowhere," which fused Spacemen 3-styled shoegaze, darkwave, postrock and tribal doom. Opening for the likes of The Soft Moon, Led Er Est, and Psychic Ills reveals the cut of their cloth. And its dark. Very, very dark.

DEATHDAY was constructed from the aggressive textures of early industrial music, the ambience of cold wave and shoegaze, and the carnal energy of post-punk. With releases on Downwards, Mannequin and Sweating Tapes, and a full length LP in the works, the only question is how long until the rest of the country tunes in to the fact that Deathday are one of the best new bands in the country. (That, and for how much longer will we tolerate mass murder?)
